God sometimes gives us unexpected gifts. Our gift has been a grandson who enlivens our lives and makes retirement very different than the one we anticipated. He is a special joy. And that's "Casey." In 2006 we fulfilled our dream of living in Italy for a year. It was every bit as wonderful as anticipated. This blog begins in 2005 as we prepared for that experience. Since then we have explored many places together. That's the "Travel." And finally, I am a person of opinions--spiritually, politically, on just about anything and that's the "Other Stuff." Welcome to my blog.

The US Gets Smart

Guess what's in our cul-de-sac right now. It brought a big smile and made me feel the ocean has been bridged. Love it! And the color--perfect!

OK--I posted yesterday and two in a row is not my normal MO--but, this I couldn't resist.

Ever since we went to Italy last year my husband wants one so bad. We have seen a couple in Kansas City. The world keeps getting smaller.

I hope all's well!

I LOVE Smart Cars!! If they weren't so expensive here and I wasn't afraid of getting crunched in one, I would buy one. How cool to have one in your cul-de-sac.

I'm afraid it is no longer in our cul-de-sac. It was just visiting the neighbors. Are they really expensive?

I've seen about 4 here in Dallas. I was SO excited!! wooohooo smarts!

I heard that they weren't too expensive - starting around $12,000. If you only did town and city driving they should be safe enough. I really wouldn't want to dry one across the US on the major Interstate Highways.

When they first arrived, I heard they were very expensive. Not sure of the current cost. Maybe I should look into one again.

Gil, years (and years) ago I drove an Isetta--do you know what they were? It would have made the Smart look like a Humvee.

Isetta! Another car I would not want to drive on today's interstate highways with all of the huge cars and trucks flying around. I remember you or maybe Carole B. posting a picture of an Isetta a year or two ago and remember seeing one in the 60's or early 70's. It probably would be better for the World and the US economy if personal vehicles start getting smaller again! Sorry about typo in my last post.

Gil, that was me that posted the picture of the young woman (me) standing with the Isetta. I just remember driving it on the freeway and being jolted each time a truck passed. Finally, one day I had enough and said "no more." I wonder where my brains were in younger days? Of course, I wonder that now, too.

Speaking of being younger. My wife's older sister was living outside of San Fransisco and I'll forget my mother-in-law being driven through the mountains with Judy driving her 1968 Volvo 1800 coffee in one hand and smoking a cigarette and trying to shift through the gears with the other one. The story of the Isetta in in the same memory bank of my brain that needs waking up from time to time. Thanks!
