God sometimes gives us unexpected gifts. Our gift has been a grandson who enlivens our lives and makes retirement very different than the one we anticipated. He is a special joy. And that's "Casey." In 2006 we fulfilled our dream of living in Italy for a year. It was every bit as wonderful as anticipated. This blog begins in 2005 as we prepared for that experience. Since then we have explored many places together. That's the "Travel." And finally, I am a person of opinions--spiritually, politically, on just about anything and that's the "Other Stuff." Welcome to my blog.

MS. JANE,

I COMPLETLY IDENTIFY WITH YOUR FEELINGS ABOUT THE FRENCH MY HUSBAND AND I WENT TO VERDUN THE WW1 PLACE WHERE OUR DADS FOUGHT AS TEENAGERS AND I COULD NOT WAIT TO LEAVE. I COULD SAY MORE BUT IT HAS BEEN A LONG DAY HERE. IN THEIR DEFENCE, WE DID MEET ABOUT 4 NICE FRENCH PEOPLE, THE COUNTRY SIDE WAS LOVELY.
I AM SO GLAD THAT YOU ENJOY YOUR GRAND SON,
TINA

Actually,I found French people to be pleasant and helpful. We didn't have bad experiences in terms of people interactions or attitudes. My diatribe was really aimed at the official posture concerning language--not the people themselves.
